Ulcerative Colitis is a disease that causes inflammation of the large intestine and colon. The disease can cause abdominal pains as well as bouts of diarrhoea that can contain mucus or blood. Ulcerative Colitis tends to flare up and then settle down again for variable amounts of time; some sufferers only experience one single attack of the condition. The disease affects around 1 in 160 people and is more common than Crohn’s disease. Symptoms are often intermittent and varied, but they can include, diarrhoea, poor appetite, tiredness and abdominal pain. There have been many recent studies that suggest that ALA found in Omega 3 fatty acids help decrease bowel inflammation.
