We’re highly committed to ensuring our website is accessible for all. We’ve designed our website to make it easy to use no matter what browser, computer, keyboard or mouse you use,
For visitors who suffer from visual impairment the text on our site can be enlarged using your browser tools to zoom the window or change the text size. Find out how to do this here.
For visitors who have difficulty with their mouse or keyboard, there are a variety of tools available. Find out more here.
There are also a variety of tools available for visitors that need help with reading. You can find out more here.
We recommend that you visit the BBC’s Accessibility Pages which provides an excellent source of information to help you navigate any site using Windows, Apple Mac and Linux operating systems.
We have worked hard to ensure our site complies with a growing body of Accessibility Standards across commissioning, editorial, design & coding.
We are committed to making our website as accessible as possible to all audiences (including those with visual, hearing, cognitive or motor impairments) and to meeting our statutory obligations defined by the Disability Discrimination Act.
Where practically possible an accessible alternative is included to ensure all elements of the site are visible and navigable.
Large blocks of information have been divided into manageable chunks throughout the site. And lines are no longer than 70 characters (for the browser default font setting) including the spaces in between words, except where the line is a URL or code fragment.
All pages include the use of heading elements and use HTML text rather than images wherever possible.
We have endeavoured to use plain language and avoid jargon.
When images or diagrams have been used, we have endeavoured to ensure that they make sense without explanation and always include text alternatives.
No content on our site should cause an item on the screen to flicker and we do not use blinking, flickering or flashing objects.
Where frames are used, an explanation of how they relate to each other (if this is not obvious using the frame titles alone) is given.
All our forms provide a ‘submit’ button.
All downloadable documents including PDFs are available in alternative accessible formats, either HTML or Text. All PDFs comply with Adobe's accessibility guidelines.
Where possible all pages provide users with the option to bypass groups of related links and include an image (where relevant) that encapsulates what the link refers to.
Our page layouts accommodate the enlarging of text.
We use style sheets to control layout and presentation.
All text based content is published on a plain solid background.
We do not create periodically auto-refreshing pages in their default state, i.e. you can allow an opt-in auto-refresh.
We do not break browser back button functionality.
New windows will only be opened from a page if they are pop-up and we clearly label links (in the text of the page) which launch pop-ups so that our visitors know they are launching a pop-up. Pop-ups do not appear without being intentionally opened by the user.
Page layouts provide consistent navigation and clearly define the different sections of the page and ensure consistent location of screen objects.
