An article published in the Daily Express has said that eating oily fish rich in omega-3 can reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD), a leading cause of loss of vision in older people.
According to two US studies which monitored more than 11,000 people, by increasing levels of vitamin D – found in oily fish, egg yolk, liver, as well as exposure to sunlight – the chances of developing the disease are reduced.
AMD occurs when the macula, the area at the back of the retina that produces the sharpest vision, deteriorates over time.
